The Fifth Toy Story Film Teaser Sets Woody and Buzz Versus a Digital Device
Exactly 30 anniversary since the original Toy Story film was released, launching Pixar as a major animation studio and introducing viewers to beloved characters like Woody (the actor) and Buzz Lightyear (the voice talent), who are now household names.
In 2026, the fifth installment is set to arrive. The first teaser trailer for Toy Story 5 landed recently, offering a brief look into the plot but keeping viewers curious how it will resolve the ending of Toy Story 4.
The Latest Addition: A Frog-Shaped Tablet Frightens the Toys
In the teaser reveals the young girl — who received Andy's toys when he grew up — getting a latest toy, one that alarms Woody, Buzz, and the crew. Bonnie gets her initial digital gadget, and she is excited about it.
Theoretically, the amphibian-inspired device will animate just like Bonnie's other toys. However, the toys seem to view it as a danger coming to replace them, which it likely will.
The Cowboy's Comeback: Mysteries from Toy Story 4
An element the trailer avoids is what Woody is returned with his friends in Bonnie's room. The end of Toy Story 4 saw him set off on a new adventure with Bo Peep (the actress), journeying with a fair and helping prize toys find good homes.
Certainly, the filmmakers will explain the consequences of Toy Story 4 in the movie. Witnessing him show up in Bonnie's room without warning is somewhat puzzling, though. It also raises questions whether his partner will have returned with Woody. And where is Duke Caboom (Keanu Reeves)?
Connections from the Previous Film
Fortunately, some elements are carrying over from the earlier movie. The last thing the cowboy did before departing for his fresh path was pass his sheriff badge to Jessie (Joan Cusack), leaving her as the leader of the toy domain. The clip displays the badge attached to her outfit.
It is hoped she is still the driving force among the toys.
Toy Story 5 arrives in theaters on the scheduled date.
