Uche Ignites Straightforward Palace Victory at Shelbourne.
Even though embarking on their maiden European campaign, Crystal Palace are learning at a rapid pace. Without star figures like striker Jean-Philippe Mateta and wing-back Daniel Muñoz, the Eagles left Dublin with a commanding result that all but secures them a spot in the Europa Conference League qualifying rounds.
Another three points in their next match against Finnish KuPS should be enough to seal direct entry to the knockout stages, particularly following a prior setback against Strasbourg.
Fringe Players Grasp the Moment
This match offered a platform for some of Palace's lesser-used talent to shine. Christantus Uche, in only his second start since arriving on loan from Getafe, notched the scoring with a clinical goal. Forward Eddie Nketiah contributed a second, finding the net for the second consecutive match.
A Shelbourne team that had concluded their domestic season were no match even for a largely rotated Palace outfit. The Londoners were already depleted by the news that Mateta and Muñoz are out with knee problems.
Control Asserted from the Outset
Despite torrential rain in Dublin, Palace rapidly took control. A flowing move in the 11th minute, initiated by Daichi Kamada's clever pass, allowed Nketiah to set up Uche for a simple tap-in.
Midfielder Adam Wharton went close soon after, fizzing a powerful shot over the bar. Nketiah then appealed for a penalty after bursting into the area, but the referee waved away the protests.
Ex-Arsenal striker didn't need to wait long to find his goal, tapping home from a yard out after Uche's effort had hit the post.
Shelbourne were hanging on desperately. Full-back Kameron Ledwidge was fortunate to avoid a booking for two robust tackles on Yeremy Pino, before Chris Richards rattled the crossbar with a header from a corner.

The match was as good as over eight minutes from half-time. Yeremy Pino weaved past a series of comically weak challenges before calmly slotting a shot past goalkeeper Wessel Speel to extend the lead to 3-0.
After the break, manager Oliver Glasner took the chance to withdraw several players like Kamada and Wharton. Replacement Romain Esse came close to scoring his first touch, but saw his effort blocked.
The youngster was desperately unlucky later on, seeing one shot strike off each posts before being clasped on the line. Uche then missed a glaring chance, indicating there is still scope for improvement in his game.
The only worry for Palace was a late knock to Justin Devenny, who limped off. This allowed 17-year-old striker Benji Casey to make his first-team debut, rounding off an otherwise perfect evening for the visiting side.
